Wind Industry Profile of

High pressure-resistant inductive sensors monitor the locking cylinders in wind power plants

Baumer introduces its high pressure-resistant Series IFRP inductive sensors as a reliable solution for monitoring the end position of locking cylinders or hydraulical pitch systems.

The inductive sensors can be used under extreme conditions with a pressure of up to 500 bar. This is possible thanks to the special design of the sensor head, which prevents the ceramic sensor face from being pressed into the sensor. Particularly for the use in harsh environments, the housing is also made of stainless steel and complying with protection class IP 68. Thanks to the materials used, the inductive sensor IFRP is extremely resistant against hydraulic oils. Depending on the application, four sensor versions of different sizes are available.

In wind power plants the sensors are used, amongst others, to monitor the piston position of the locking cylinders. They ensure that all pistons stay in their locking position and therefore prevent the rotor from moving. This guarantees the necessary safety of man and machine when the operation of the plant is to be suspended, e.g. for maintenance. Furthermore, the IFRP can be used to control the end position of the hydraulical cylinders in pitch systems.
