Wind Industry Profile of

Inside Korean Wind - RES Expanding into South Korean Market with New Representative Agreement

As the industry prepares for this year’s Global Offshore Wind conference and exhibition in London, RES announces its agreement with Blue Wind Engineering to expand consultancy services into South Korea

RES’  Korean business activities  will be led by Dr. Jone Oh, founder of Blue Wind Engineering, who is tasked with assisting with the establishment of  a consulting business, raising RES’ profile in South Korea as a provider of services and securing new business. The focus of RES’ activity will be the provision of project life-cycle services to the emerging offshore wind market.

David Povall, CEO Asia-Pacific at RES, said:

“The enthusiasm for the emerging offshore wind market in Korea makes this a very exciting opportunity for RES. Korea has ambitious targets for offshore wind and is looking to build upon its rich experience and knowledge of marine industries, in particular its marine engineering, shipbuilding and steel plate manufacturing. These industries are well developed, so as a country Korea is well placed to play a significant role in both the domestic and international offshore wind markets.  We believe RES’ technical and engineering expertise could play an important role in helping Korean companies realise these goals.”

Dr. Oh founder of Blue Wind Engineering and RES’ representative in Korea said:

“Korea is looking for technical support for its projects and R&D programmes from experienced players and RES, with years of experience in offshore wind and with skilled staff that understand the challenges and the complexity of offshore projects, is well placed to offer its full range of services to this emerging market. We are extremely pleased to have been selected as RES’ representative for its consultancy and business development services.”

RES already has an established presence in the Asia-Pacific region, with offices in Japan and Australia and whilst the expansion into South Korea marks an expedition into brand new territory it is built on a solid foundation.  RES and Blue Wind Engineering have been engaging with key industry stakeholders over the last 12 months and over 300 international delegates at the recent Wind Energy Asia Conference on Je-Ju Island listened to Jim Sandon, COO of RES Offshore, present the keynote address setting out the Challenges to Offshore Wind.

Dr. Jone Oh is founder of Blue Wind Engineering. With a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Jone has over 30 years’ industrial experience. As the Vice President of Wind Energy Asia and Director of the Korean Wind Energy Association, Jone is a respected thought leader for both technical and policy making areas for offshore wind sector  and has a very good relationship with Government, Academia, and Industries. He will be assisted by Mr Chris Lim, also a mechanical engineer who is a condition monitoring specialist and vibration analyst in the wind industry.
