Wind Industry Profile of

The quietest turbine in its class. Low noise level, high performance – the 3.2M114 from REpower Systems SE, Hamburg in The Windfair Newsletter
A gearbox that pays dividends
Compliance with ultra-strict maximum sound levels to avoid disturbance to local residents is a key criterion when choosing a wind turbine. The sound emission values are mainly determined by the speed of the rotor blade tips. REpower trusts in an integral drive train concept, optimised over a period of several decades and featuring an efficient gearbox. This concept allows compact generators to be used in combination with low rotor speeds. Put another way, at Repower a big rotor doesn’t mean lots of noise.
Sound power level – a vital location factor
Adapting wind turbines to conditions at different locations – and particularly to the needs of people living in the area – represents a formidable technological challenge. REpower masters this situation with perfectly dovetailed components and by continually upgrading its existing product ranges. The 3.2M114 – the quietest turbine in its class – is the latest in a long line of successful examples.
Sound power level – a unique guarantee
REpower provides a written declaration of compliance with the maximum project-specific sound power level for every single turbine. This unique guarantee assures that the specified sound values are adhered to in all measurements. The sound power levels warranted by REpower already include all measurement uncertainties, in other words there is no need to allow any additional safety margins.
With REpower’s help, wind farm operators can actively reduce the maximum sound power level further still if necessary. Optional sound management packages are offered for this purpose in the form of intelligent control software that aligns the turbines even more closely to local site requirements.
The experience of some 3,500 wind turbines
Each new REpower wind turbine draws on the experience gained from manufacturing, installing and maintaining about 3,500 wind turbines all over the world. Yet this is not the company’s only field of expertise: REpower is a competent partner when it comes to integrating wind turbines into their environment, connecting them to the grid and monitoring their performance. It’s no wonder its wind turbines deliver maximum performance throughout their entire lifetime in terms of profitability, reliability and safety.
