Wind Industry Profile of
09/27/2011
This week: Interview with Klaus Bergmann, General Manager, BBB Umwelttechnik GmbH and Head of the accredited BBB-Wind Testing Laboratory.
Hamburg, 27.09.2011.
Windfair: Is the Wind Energy Industry a priority for your company? How so?
Klaus Bergmann: The focus of our technical consulting services is on the wind. Here we provide our clients with qualified services in technical due diligence (project assessments), yield assessments and wind measurements and the full range of wind farm development, from feasibility study to commissioning. We also offer the corresponding services in the PV area.
Windfair: How many employees does your company have?
Klaus Bergmann: We have 18 employees in our headquarters in Gelsenkirchen and seven other colleagues in our accredited Wind Testing Laboratory in Weiden in Bavaria: a total of 25 employees.
Windfair: How many dedicated to Wind Energy?
Klaus Bergmann: Usually all - it only happens from time to time that we are asked to plan a PV park or edit yield reports for PV.
Windfair: Do you have any new or upcoming Wind Energy Products or Services?
Klaus Bergmann: We constantly develop our product range: We now have our own LIDAR wind measuring system. We are glad to offer this technology to our customers - it is flexible and provides absolutely reliable results. Another innovation from our company, our web based monitoring system MMS: it enables the customer to monitor the results of wind measurements in real time and simultaneously evaluate the data for a selected period. In addition, the system sends out alerts if a sensor fails - which avoids the loss of valuable data. This system we have recently presented at the "windfair" technology symposium.
Finally, we have developed for project assessments an O & M modeling tools. Thus we are able to make precise plant-specific statements about service and maintenance costs for a period of up to 20 years. We have created our own extensive database especially for this purpose.
Windfair: Do you have any special training programs for your employees?
Klaus Bergmann: We have a number of very competent and experienced staff in each division. These impart their knowledge to junior staff. In addition, our staff is regularly trained externally. Apprenticeships (as we know them in Germany) we can just offer in the commercial area.
Windfair: Tell us about your future developments. What can we expect in the next year or two?
Klaus Bergmann: We are now 15 years in business and want to continue to grow. Currently, we are very active in Germany, but at the same time we build partnerships in the future markets of Turkey and Brazil. We have a wide range of services and as service providers we can adapt swiftly to new situations on the market. I am firmly convinced that we will have doubled our number of our employees at our 20-year anniversary.
