European Ocean Energy Association: "Choosing the right ocean energy device for a given site: Application of the EquiMar Protocols" event and networking reception

The European funded project EquiMar, which aimed to pave the way to the creation of standards in the field of wave and tidal energy development is reaching its conclusion and the European Ocean Energy Association, in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh, is organising an event to present the public with its final results. This event will take place at the Basque Country Delegation in Brussels, rue des Deux Églises, 27, 1000, Brussels on the 14th April 2011 from 14:00 onwards. To register to the event, send an email with your name, address and company, to fdanos@eu-oea.com, or it is possible to register on site on the day.

This workshop will show you how the technology evaluation and assessment methods developed by the EquiMar project can be applied to help select appropriate ocean energy converters for deployment at a specific location. The workshop will include presentations on practical experience and risk management from leading developers and industry practicioners. For more information on the project, visit the EquiMar website (www.equimar.org) or our YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/equimarvid).

The aim of this event will be to have an interactive session, where the protocols will be presented, especially how they could be applied and why they are relevant to the different ocean energy stakeholders (industry, utilities, engineers, policy makers, developers, environmental organisations...) The protocols address all the stages of ocean energy project development from resource and environmental impact assessments to full size project deployment. The experience of in the Basque Country and Europe will be presented and the added value of the EquiMar protocols explained.

-José Ramón López, from the Basque Energy Board (EVE).
-University of Edinburgh's Professor David Ingram, co-ordinator of the project;
-Dr. Chris Retzler, co-founder of Pelamis Wave Power (PWP). Pelamis is one of the world's leading ocean wave energy devices and inventor of one of the most advanced wave energy devices;
-Pierpaolo Ricci from Tecnalia, the Spanish engineering foundation that has been contracted to develop the Biscay Marine Energy Platform (bimep), the first Spanish ocean energy test-site.
-Claudio Bittencourt, from Det Norske Veritas (DNV), the global provider of risk management services.

The event will be followed by a networking event, which will be a key occasion to meet other ocean energy stakeholders, and discuss closely to the project partners for more information.
