Italy - REpower expanding output of one of the largest Italian wind farms by 36.9 MW
REpower Systems AG has concluded a contract for the supply of 18 wind turbines with Daunia Savignano, a subsidiary of the Italian Tozzi Group. The turbines of the REpower MM92 type each have a hub height of 80 meters and a rated output of 2.05 megawatts (MW). They are destined for use in the Savignano wind farm in southern Italy. REpower Systems AG is currently already
erecting 20 such turbines at this wind farm.
TRE&P, which is a subsidiary of Tozzi Holding for renewable energy projects, is the majority shareholder in Daunia Savignano. The company had already concluded two contracts last year with REpower Systems AG for a total supply of 31 wind turbines to project companies of TRE&P, 20 of which were destined for the Savignano wind farm. The capacity of the Savignano project should be expanded by 36.9 MW from the end of 2010 via the 18 new turbines; it is planned that these should be fully commissioned by the first quarter of 2011. The wind farm will then have an output of 77.9 MW and will as a result be one of the largest wind farm projects in Italy. REpower is responsible for the supply, erection, installation as well as commissioning.
Per Hornung Pedersen, CEO of REpower Systems AG: “The excellent cooperation between our two companies so far is illustrated by the fact that we were awarded the subsequent contract for this project by Tozzi. We are delighted to have the opportunity to continue to further expand the cooperation with this technically accomplished and experienced partner in the area of renewable energy supply.” REpower and Tozzi have a second joint project with a total of 11 wind turbines in Sicily.
Mario Tozzi, Managing Director of Tozzi Group: “We’ve appreciated the professionalism and the seriousness of REpower in the management of the projects we are realizing with their turbines. For this reason and because of the trust we have in the reliability of REpower turbines we have confirmed the order of 18 additional 2.05 MW wind turbines. Tozzi Group is investing in systems for
the production of renewable energy both as a producer and as an epc contractor.
To date we have installed 171 MW in operational wind farms, 190 MW are in construction and we have planned to reach the installation of 600 MW until 2014.”
REpower Italia S.r.l., which has its head office in Milan since 2004, offers complete project management as well as an excellent after-sales service. The company has service centers both in Foggia (Apulia) and in Sicily.
