Brazil - Alstom enters the Brazilian wind market with a wind turbines assembling plant in Bahía

Investment estimated at approx. 20 million Euros

The Company’s assembling plant has signed a principle in accordance with the Government of the State of Bahia for its first Assembly plant of wind turbines in that country. The plant would be devoted to the Assembly of wind turbines with a capacity of 300 MEGAWATTS per year. . According to the terms of the agreement, the new plant could come into operation in 2011.

The President of Alstom-Hydro world leader in infrastructure for the power generation and rail transport and a landmark in innovative and environmentally friendly technologies with the environment, stated that the company has the technology and knowledge to contribute to the development of wind energy and that this action confirms its growth strategy in the region and its goal of becoming a key factor in the market of wind energy in Brazil.

According to the Secretary of Industry, Commerce and mining of Brazil, "the symbolism of the construction of the first wind turbines in Bahia State Assembly plant is very meaningful".

Alstom believes in the wind as a viable source of clean energy, which can help reduce CO2 emissions and other pollutants that harm the environment. The company carries out activities in the sector of wind energy in several countries.
