Germany - REpower and Heritage LLC sign supply contract covering more than 18 MW for Michigan wind farm project

Option of further 20 MW in 2010 / Stoney Corners II wind farm to be completed by 3Q 2010

REpower USA Corp., a subsidiary of Germany’s third largest wind turbine manufacturer, REpower Systems AG (WKN 617703), has signed a contract with the US project developer Heritage Sustainable Energy LLC to supply nine 2 MW-class MM92 wind turbines with a total output of 18.45 MW. The turbines are destined for the Stoney Corners II wind farm project near the city of McBain, Michigan, and are expected to be installed by the third quarter of 2010. The contract also provides an option for delivery of another ten REpower MM92 turbines by September of 2010.

Turbines delivered for the Stoney Corners II wind project will have a hub height of 100 meters, one of the first installations of a 2 MW-class turbine with a 100 meter hub height in the United States. REpower’s previous projects in the United States have utilized hub heights of 80 meters.

Stoney Corners II is the second contract this year between REpower USA Corp. and Heritage Sustainable Energy at the Stoney Corners site. The first contract about seven REpower MM92 turbines for the Stoney Corners I project, each with an output of two megawatts and a hub height of 80 meters, was signed in March of this year. The turbines are currently under construction. The project Stoney Corners I is expected to be completed by the end of November. The renewable energy is being sold to Detroit Edison under a 20 year power purchase agreement.

Marty Lagina, CEO of Heritage Sustainable Energy LLC, said after the signing of Stoney Corners II: “We are looking forward to continuing and building upon our recent partnership with REpower with this project. Between 2010 and 2012, Heritage is planning to construct further projects in Michigan with the goal of building 400-500 MW in the next few years.”

Per Hornung Pedersen, CEO of REpower Systems AG, added: “We are delighted to renew our collaboration with Heritage. Although the US wind energy market has been restrained this year, we are convinced that the long-term growth forecasts will stand the test of time.”

To date, REpower USA Corp. (headquartered in Denver, Colorado) has installed or sold more than 320 wind turbines in the United States, with a total output of over 600 MW. The firm’s customers include enXco, a subsidiary of the energy provider EDF Energies Nouvelles, John Deere Renewables and Cannon Power.
