Vestas receives order for 102 MW in Mexico

Vestas has received an order for 51 units of the V80-2.0 MW wind turbine for the Oaxaca I project to be located in the municipality of Santo Domingo de Ingenio, Juchitan de Zaragoza, Oaxaca, Mexico. The order includes supply, installation and commissioning of the 51 wind turbines as well as a ten-year service contract. The project is expected completed by December 2010.

The order has been placed by Dragados Proyectos Industriales de Mexico S.A. de C.V.

“Working on this important project has been encouraging for both Vestas and Dragados Proyectos Industriales, as this is Vestas' largest wind farm in Latin America & Caribbean,” explains Juan Araluce, President of Vestas Mediterranean, and adds: “Mexico is committed to developing wind energy as one of the most promising renewable energies to diversify its electricity generation and reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. We are of course very pleased that Dragados Proyectos Industriales has chosen to collaborate with Vestas to benefit from the great wind potential of their site and at the
same time help satisfy the energy demand of the Mexican market.”

Mexico has a wind capacity of more than 5 GW (source: Federal Electricity Commission, September 2006) and had a cumulative installed capacity of 332 MW as of December 2008. The goal is to achieve 1,500 MW installed by 2012 (source: SENER (Energy office)).
