Panama - Spanish company to invest in the first panamanian wind farm
The Spanish company Fersa, through the Panamanian company Enrilews SA, will invest approximately $225 million Euros in building the Toabré wind farm, to be located in the province of Cocle.
In the Environmental License, finally issued by the Authority of Public Services (ASEP), they authorize the generation of 225 MW when it begins to operate in its entirety, which will cover 9% of domestic demand.
It is worth mentioning that this project will be conducted in two stages. The first one is to begin the construction at the end of the second quarter of this year and could start operating in late 2010, producing 150 MW through 75 wind turbines of 2 MW each.
The second one will include the remaining 75 MW and it is estimated that the construction will begin by 2011.
Thus, the Panamanian energy market begins to record positive changes aimed at diversifying the energy matrix with renewable sources by 2010, firmly positioning wind energy.
