Chile - Canela I wind farm enters in the UN’s “Clean Development Mechanism” circuit

For Endesa Chile, this wind farm stands as the first of their projects to reach this achievement in the country

Endesa Eco, a company managed by Endesa Chile, announced that they have successfully introduced the Canela I wind farm into the Clean Development Mechanism circuit, in front of the United Nations Climate Change Office.

For Endesa Chile, this wind farm stands as the first of their projects to reach this achievement in the country, and at the same time the third one in the region, after a mini-hydro plant also in Chile, and a hydropower central in Peru.

The importance of this success is that, since last April 3rd, the UN announced the completion of this process, begun in 2007, through which they can verify and market the greenhouse gases emissions that have been avoided; this implies that approximately a total of 27,251 tons of carbon dioxide have not been disseminated to the environment.

It must be noted that the Canela I wind farm, located in the Coquimbo Region, began operations in December 2007, being the first wind project connected to the Central Interconnected System; it has a generating capacity of 18.15 MW through 11 wind turbines of 1.65 MW each.
