China - Wind power turbine prototypes soon to be unveiled
China has attained significant progress in its drive to localize the production of wind power turbines, according to China Renewable Energy Scale-up Program. The country's main wind power equipment manufacturers such as Goldwind Science & Technology, Sinovel Wind, Zhejiang Windey Wind Generating Engineering, Shanghai Electric Group and Dongfang Steam Turbine Works have completed the research and design of new products and purchase of key components.
Prototypes of wind power turbines will soon be released with the 3-MW on-grid wind power turbine by Sinovel Wind to enter operation offshore from Shanghai in 2010. Thus far, the five wind turbine makers have localized the production of most components and expect breakthroughs on the main bearing and controlling system.
At year end 2008, China had a total installed wind power capacity of more than 12 GW and expects to see further rapid development.
