Canada - Kruger Energy celebrates the official opening of its first wind farm in Ontario

Port Alma Wind Farm contributing to Ontario's supply of renewable energy

Kruger Energy celebrated today the official opening of the Port Alma Wind Farm in Chatham-Kent, Ontario. All 44 wind turbines at the Kruger Energy Port Alma Wind Farm are now operational. This 101.2-megawatt project, located on the north shore of Lake Erie, will
generate over 300 gigawatt hours (GWh) of power per year; producing enough electricity to power approximately 30,000 Ontario households annually.

"Kruger Energy is very proud of its first venture into Ontario's
renewable energy market," said Mr. Jacques Gauthier, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Kruger Energy. "Ontario's vast wind resource has only begun to be harnessed and we look forward to continuing to work with the Ontario government to provide additional sources of green power."

In November 2005, Kruger Energy Port Alma Limited Partnership (KEPA) was selected by Ontario's Ministry of Energy as part of the Renewable Energy Request for Proposals (RFP) II, to develop the Port Alma Wind Power Project.

Under the terms of the contract, Kruger Energy will sell renewable energy to the Ontario Power Authority for a period of 20 years.

"Developing more renewable energy projects is not only good for the
environment, it's good for the economy," said Premier Dalton McGuinty. "Renewable energy projects like this help ensure a cleaner, greener and stronger future for Ontario families and our world."

The wind power project will receive up to $31 million in funding, over 10 years, under the Government of Canada's ecoENERGY for Renewable Power program. This one cent per kilowatt hour ecoENERGY incentive will help to ensure that clean electricity generated at the site can be delivered to Ontario consumers at competitive prices.

"There is no question that energy powers our economy, and that we need clean energy to protect both our health and our environment," said the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Natural Resources. "This investment demonstrates our government's clear commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the supply of clean, renewable energy in Canada."

"I am pleased that my prediction of nearly five years ago is coming
true," said Chatham-Kent-Essex MPP Pat Hoy. "I suggested new provincial policies could help make Chatham-Kent a hub for green renewable energy with local residents among the first to reap the gains of wind power. It means cleaner air, healthier citizens and a more prosperous economy."

"Chatham-Kent Council has placed the development of green energy as one of its four top strategic directions for the year 2007 through to 2010," said Mayor Randy Hope. "The Kruger Energy project has given that strategic direction the real substance and impetus it needed, and now we are looking with great anticipation to future projects."
