USA - Xcel Energy signs on for $900M wind power project
Xcel Energy Inc. will work with enXco to build wind farms in Minnesota and North Dakota that will generate 351 megawatts of power, Xcel announced Friday.
EnXco is a renewable energy developer headquartered in Escondido, Calif. It will develop the wind farms, while Xcel will pursue the needed regulatory approvals.
The projects will be in southwestern Minnesota’s Nobles County and in Dickey and McIntosh counties in North Dakota. The Nobles Wind Project in Minnesota will generate 201 megawatts, and the Merricourt Wind Project in North Dakota will generate 150 megawatts, Xcel Energy said in a release.
The project will require $900 million in investment over three years. Nobles County will begin operating at the end of 2010, and Merricourt at the end of 2011. Ownership of the projects will transfer on completion to Northern States Power Company.
Xcel (NYSE: XEL) says the two projects will produce enough electricity to power approximately 110,000 homes.
