UK Offshore Wind 2004
The BWEA is pleased to announce their third annual event dedicated to the UK offshore wind sector. The BWEA’s UK Offshore Wind 2004 will take place on March 3rd and 4th at the Tower Thistle Hotel in London. Over 250 delegates have already registered to hear a panel of distinguished speakers give the latest insights into the current shape and future scope of one of the most exciting markets for wind in the world. Energy Minister Stephen Timms will give the keynote address on the opening day of the conference, and other speakers include the RSPB, the Carbon Trust, the Crown Estate, Renewables UK, Department of Trade and Industry on SEAs and the offshore grid infrastructure needed. The sessions will range from the latest on progress in Round 1 and the new Round 2 projects, the Energy Bill, financing and insurance, health & safety and other key issues affecting the industry offshore.
Offshore wind energy will be a significant industry for the UK: projects in the recently announced Round 2 of development alone could provide up to 7.2 gigawatts (GW) of generating capacity – enough electricity for more than one in six UK households by 2010 – while projections from the DTI suggest that R2 could create a further 20,000 jobs for Britain, in the construction, installation and maintenance of offshore wind farms. Members of the press are invited to hear the Minister’s address and attend the conference for all the latest news and views on the UK offshore wind industry. Please contact Alison Hill, Head of Communications (alison@bwea.com) to confirm attendance or with any other questions regarding the conference or wind energy in the UK.
