REpower: 30 MW contract for project in North East Germany

- First-time collaboration with the Berlin-based investor Saxovent

- REpower also concludes Letter of Understanding with Gastops (Canada) for supply of 2,000 oil particle sensors

- Industry event HUSUM WindEnergy runs until 13 September in North Frisia’s wind capital

Hamburg/Husum, 11 September 2008. REpower Systems AG (securities identification number: 617703) has been awarded a contract to supply 15 wind turbines (total rated power 30 MW) of type MM92 by the investor Saxovent. Both companies today signed a corresponding contract at the HUSUM WindEnergy trade fair. With a hub height of 100 m and rated power of 2 MW each, the turbines are to be erected at a windy coastal location in North East Germany in 2010.

Germany’s third largest wind turbine manufacturer REpower is collaborating for the first time with Saxovent on the planned wind farm. The Berlin-based company was established in 1997 and executes national and international wind farm projects with turbines of various output classes. By signing the contract, both companies are laying the foundation for possible further cooperation. “I am delighted to announce this promising collaboration for REpower on the German wind market during the HUSUM WindEnergy event. Our MM92 is excellently suited to the planned location with medium to good wind conditions, since the turbine has been optimised for inland regions,” commented Per Hornung Pedersen, CEO of REpower Systems AG.

Carsten Paatsch, Managing Director of Saxovent, added: “We regard REpower as a strong and qualified partner for this project. We intend to construct more wind farms in the North German region in the medium term and we are also looking to collaborate with REpower for these projects, meaning we could also make use of synergies in the service area.” The 2 MW turbines will be constructed at REpower’s Husum and Trampe (Brandenburg) production sites.

REpower also signed a Letter of Understanding (LoU) with the Canadian company Gastops at the trade fair today for the supply of 2,000 oil particle sensors. These sensors are the ideal complement to the automated monitoring of drive trains in onshore and offshore wind turbines. Following comprehensive tests, REpower will fit the sensors, which are recognised by leading German insurance companies, into its turbines gradually from October.
