Siemens receives order for 101-MW wind farm in Oklahoma, USA

Siemens has been awarded an order to supply 44 of its 2.3-megawatt (MW) wind turbines for the Keenan wind farm in Woodward County in Oklahoma. The purchaser is CPV Renewable Energy Company, a subsidiary of Competitive Power Ventures (CPV), Inc. and a power generation development company focused on the North American market. The Keenan wind farm will increase Oklahoma's existing 700-MW wind power capacity by 101 MW, enough power to meet the electricity demand of approximately 30,000 households. Counting this order, Siemens has received six U.S. wind turbine orders totaling more than 1,500 MW to date this fiscal year. Siemens is one of the three leading wind turbine suppliers to the world's largest wind power market.

"The U.S. is the largest market for our wind turbines business and we are pleased that Competitive Power Ventures selected Siemens for its first wind farm in Oklahoma, which will also be our first wind project in that state," said Andreas Nauen, CEO of the Siemens Wind Power Business Unit. The Siemens scope of supply for the Keenan Wind Farm in Oklahoma consists of delivery, installation and commissioning of 44 SWT-2.3-93 wind turbines with a capacity of 2.3 MW each. A service and warranty agreement is also included in the order. The wind farm is scheduled to be in commercial operation in 2009.

Wind power is one of the biggest contributors to Siemens' environmental portfolio. In 2007, revenue from products and solutions of Siemens' environmental portfolio was nearly EUR17 billion. The environmental portfolio is growing 10 percent annually, and the revenue target for 2011 is EUR25 billion.
