REpower: 200 MW order for wind farms in USA
- US trade fair Windpower08 from 01 to 04 June in Houston, Texas
Hamburg/Houston, 03 June 2008. REpower Systems AG (WKN 617703) has received an order for the delivery of 100 wind turbines of the MM92 type for the US from American project developer enXco, a subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles. Both companies have signed a corresponding contract at the US trade fair Windpower08 in Houston today. The delivery of equipment for the two planned wind farms in the northwestern US state of Washington is to begin in the second quarter of 2009; completion is scheduled for the end of 2009.
The rotor blades will be produced in North America. These projects are part of an intercontinental delivery agreement which the third largest German wind turbine manufacturer concluded with its customer EDF EN in December of last year. This involves the delivery of wind turbines with a total power of up to 690 megawatts (MW) for various projects in Europe and the USA.
Per Hornung Pedersen, CEO of REpower Systems AG: “I am particularly pleased to announce these two projects during the Windpower08. The trade fair turns out to be very beneficial for REpower and the new orders once more emphasise that the US market becomes more and more important to us.” REpower has already cooperated with enXco for several US wind farm projects in California and Washington.
In 2007, wind power was the fastest growing source of energy in the USA with a total installed power of 5,244 MW. According to a study by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), the growth in the wind power industry in the area of new installations continued in the first quarter of 2008: Altogether, a total of 1,400 megawatts (MW) of power were newly installed. In addition, investments were made in 17 new assembly plants during the past year.
REpower Systems AG has had a US subsidiary in Portland, Oregon since 2007 and is represented with a stand at the AWEA trade conference and exhibition Windpower08 which still runs until tomorrow.
