BlueGem Wind deploys floating LiDAR system in Celtic Sea
The LiDAR will provide Blue Gem Wind with wind, wave and current data from the project site in the Celtic Sea (see picture below, image: Blue Gem Wind).
The planned floating offshore wind farm Valorous is the second floating project being progressed by Blue Gem Wind in the Celtic Sea and is located 50 km South West of the Pembrokeshire coastline.
The collected data will add further to information already collected from the company's test and demonstration project, Erebus. This will allow Blue Gem Wind to undertake engineering and environmental studies with greater confidence in the site conditions and wind resource in the future.
The company has also announced to make the weather data from the LiDAR available for public use on their website.
David Jones, Stakeholder Manager, said: “As someone who gets out on the water as much as possible I know how useful local weather information can be, particularly wave data for surfers at Fresh West. Having an insight into wave height and period from a buoy 50km offshore is really helpful in planning a trip down to the beach.”
