Canada - WEICan seeks Expressions of interest

WEICan seeks Expressions of Interest from manufacturers of small wind turbines for wind turbine testing at North Cape

The Wind Energy Institute of Canada (WEICan) is Canada’s leading wind energy research and testing facility. WEICan will shortly be seeking competitive offers from companies wishing to have their wind turbines tested by WEICan at its site in North Cape, Prince Edward Island. For the purposes of conducting these tests WEICan has allocated a sum of up to $250,000 which will be used for testing not more than 5 turbines.

Tests will include power performance based on measured wind speeds and calculated power curves, sound/acoustic emissions and duration/longevity. Tests will be conducted by WEICan in conjunction with its partner, DEWI – The German Wind Energy Institute. DEWI is accredited in delivering Type Testing services in accordance with the IEC 61400 series.

Successful turbines should be commercially available or should expect to be in the immediate future. Any turbines being considered under this program should have a capacity of not more than 100kW. Successful turbines should have a high probability of success in the Canadian market in the immediate future.

A major difficulty for potential buyers of small wind turbines is being able to distinguish between those turbines which perform as their manufacturers claim and those which do not. By providing Type Testing services WEICan seeks to overcome this major obstacle and by so doing to materially assist manufacturers of small wind systems that are seeking to enter the North American market.

Details will be published to the WEICan web site in the next couple of months. In the interim feel free to contact James Glennie (Director - Business Development) for further information.
