Wind Industry Profile of
World's Most Powerful Onshore Wind Turbine Celebrates German Premiere
Commissioning is planned for summer 2022, as Siemens Gamesa said in a press statement. The two turbines will have a capacity of 13.2 MW and replace four older turbines, which had a combined capacity of 8.45 MW. Siemens Gamesa will receive a 20-year service contract for the maintenance of the turbines.
"The new turbines represent a gigantic leap in output," Mario Mehrens, Managing Director of Windpark Nortorf II GmbH und Co KG, is pleased to say, adding: "We have ideal wind conditions here on the west coast. In combination with the low electricity production costs and the favourable purchasing conditions via the ArGe Schleswig-Holstein Wind, the wind turbines from Siemens Gamesa offer us the best opportunities to expand local value creation."
Mehrens has already successfully set up and resold a wind-powered production facility for green hydrogen in Brunsbüttel with its partners, which enables emission-free mobility and heat supply in the region.
The two wind turbines are not only the first of Siemens Gamesa's new 5.X platform in Germany, but they are also the first project of the German-Spanish manufacturer to come about through a framework agreement concluded with ArGe Schleswig-Holstein Wind in October 2020. As a purchasing association, ArGe Schleswig-Holstein Wind networks private operators and community wind farms with internationally active manufacturers. With 200 turbines, the current purchasing pool comprises a volume of over one gigawatt of capacity. Siemens Gamesa is represented with its turbines in two of three clusters, which are sorted by rotor size and total height.
"By signing the framework agreements, we have brought the regional turbine market back into the focus of the major manufacturers," says Arne Möbest, managing director at ArGe Schleswig-Holstein Wind. "After a long dry spell, things are finally getting concrete again in the north. The signing of the contracts for the Nortorf II wind farm is just the start of the cooperation between ArGe Schleswig-Holstein Wind and Siemens Gamesa. We have many more projects with Siemens Gamesa turbines in the pipeline," Möbest continues.
"The purchasing syndicate pays off for all partners!" adds his partner Jens Godau. "The cooperation with Siemens Gamesa has been very successful and shows us that we are on board as a strong partner. In the future, we will be able to make an even greater contribution to the citizens' energy turnaround in Schleswig-Holstein."
