Scania Uses Green Electricity in Production Facilities

Commercial vehicle manufacturer Scania has converted its production facilities worldwide to renewable energies and thus achieved its target set for this year.

Commercial vehicle manufacturer Scania has announced that all of its ten major production facilities worldwide are now powered by fossil-free electricity. The last major production plant to complete the phase-out of fossil energy is the plant in Tucumán, Argentina, which is supplied with electricity from a wind farm.

"We have worked hard to achieve the goal of phasing out fossil fuels in our industrial operations this year," says Leif Borgstedt, Senior Energy Advisor at Scania. "We purchase electricity from a variety of suppliers with guarantees of origin and other equivalent certificates that ensure it is generated from renewable energy sources such as hydro, wind and solar power".

The production plants are located in seven different countries around the world and together consume almost 450,000 MWh annually. The transition to fossil-free electricity represents an annual saving of 33,000 tonnes of CO2.

By 2025, Scania aims to halve its carbon footprint compared to 2015, both in its industrial and commercial operations. The same reduction should be achieved in land transport per tonne transported.
