Wind Industry Profile of
Construction Start of Wind Farm Fryslân in IJsselmeer
Because of the shallows in the IJsselmeer and the narrow width of the locks, it's not possible to work with the standard tools. Van Oord has therefore built a new working platform the size of half a football field, the so-called "Sarens Soccer Pitch". On this working platform there is a large crane with which the foundations can be laid. The working platform will also be used for the installation of the wind turbines.
In the coming months, work will continue 24/7 to install the foundations. Depending on the weather conditions, about two foundation piles will be driven into the bottom of the IJsselmeer every day. One pile driving takes between 30 and 90 minutes. It is planned that all piles will be installed in January 2021.
The wind turbines of the Fryslân wind farm are placed in a 'cluster' in the shape of a hexagon. This shape will ensure that the wind turbines restrict the view of the horizon as little as possible.
The construction of the wind farm will take place in different phases. The first step is the driving and installation of the 89 foundation piles. Then underground cables will be laid between the foundation piles and the transformer station in Breezanddijk. Construction of the wind turbines will start in spring 2021, so that the wind farm can go into operation in summer and then supply 500,000 Dutch households with clean energy.
