Wind Industry Profile of

Netherlands: Wind Power from the Dike

Eneco has won the tender of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management for the Maasvlakte 2 wind farm, which is to be built on a North Sea dike.

Dutch energy company Eneco has been awarded the contract for its planned 100 MW wind farm Maasvlakte 2. Like the Slufterdam wind farm, the wind farm is to be built on the coast on a dike facing the North Sea.

Cees de Haan, Director of Eneco Wind & Solar: "Maasvlakte 2 is an excellent location for the development of a new wind farm. I am very proud that Eneco will be able to construct its largest onshore wind farm at this site. I am also looking forward to working together with the various regional parties on making this project a big success."

The new wind farm will generate around 416 GWh of green electricity, equivalent to the energy consumption of 138,000 households. Eneco estimates that preparations for construction will begin in 2022, with the wind farm producing green electricity from 2023 latest.
