Sweden - Lappland Goldminers invests in wind power
Lappland Goldminers AB has decided to initiate a preliminary study, at an estimated cost of 4 million kronor, with the purpose of producing sufficient wind power locally to achieve an energy and carbon dioxide balance mainly for the Fäboliden project. In the first stage the plans are for a 25 megawatt pilot plant, which in later stages can be expanded to cover the entire demand.
We have, for several years, been involved in developing solutions for long-term mining activities that are sound and tenable from an environmental perspective. Our goal is to be a "green" mining company in all respects. We have, among other things, tested a method of purifying ground water using bacteria, and also developed and tested a method for depositing waste products from the extraction which has minimal impact on the environment. A new company is not able to save on energy and fuel consumption. Instead the alternative available is to produce green energy - in this case wind power - in sufficient quantity to cover the demand for electricity, but also to compensate for the overall carbon dioxide load, says Karl-Åke Johansson, Lappland Goldminers CEO.
Fäboliden, the Company's "Flagship" and largest deposit, is located in the municipality of Lycksele on Guldlinjen ("The Gold Line"). The company is planning to build a central processing plant in this location, to extract gold and silver, with a capacity of 5 million tones ore per year. The plant is being built to process the ores from Guldlinjen, and the end product is doré ingots to be sold.
Fäboliden has an interesting gold mineralization, which is associated with arsenopyrite and quartz in tectonic zones. The host rock is predominantly meta-sedimentary and meta-igneous rock, which was deposited on the ocean floor around 2 billion years ago. The entire object is located within the company's exploitation concession.
Lappland Goldminers AB is an exploration company with the goal of becoming a producing mining company striving for "green" solutions. The Company is listed on the market place First North under the name GOLD. Lappland Goldminers has secured a number of gold deposits along Guldlinjen in Västerbotten. The Company's strategy is to develop a profitable, producing gold company with a centrally located processing plant in Fäboliden, which is supported by ore from one or several mines.
