West Africa's Largest Wind Farm to Be Connected to Grid This Year

In order to connect the wind farm in Senegal to the grid, extensive construction measures had to be carried out in the region, including the construction of a 30 kilometer road network.

The first 27 Vestas turbines of the 158.7 MW wind farm have now been installed. Once completed, PETN will be the first commercial wind power project in Senegal and the largest wind farm in West Africa. It will increase the country's power generation capacity by 15% and supply 2 million people with energy.

Lekela Power is also committed to the local communities and has developed a socio-economic investment plan for the local population that will contribute an estimated $20 million over the life of the wind farm. The programme focuses on activities to improve education, business and the environment. The site currently employs 600 people, including nearly 250 from the Taiba N'Diaye community.
