The ENERGY-EFFICIENCY-WATCH calls for: “Action, not talk!”
Date: Tuesday 6th March 2007, 9:30-10:30 am
Venue: Members’ Restaurant, European Parliament, Brussels
On Tuesday 6 March 2007 - on the verge of the EU Spring Council -, Members of the European Parliament, energy efficient industry and NGOs will present the ENERGY EFFICIENCY WATCH (EEW). The ENERGY EFFICIENCY WATCH is the new portal for the ENERGY EFFICIENCY Community in and for Europe. Its goal is to ensure ambitious national energy efficiency action plans within Europe.
EP Vice-President Mechtild Rothe, MEP Claude Turmes, MEP Anders Wijkman and MEP Fiona Hall and MP Boris van der Ham – co-founders of the EEW - together with representatives from industry associations (EURIMA, EUROACE, COGEN, ELCFED, EUROCOPPER, GEPVP) and the NGO sector (WWF) will present the new "common flag for energy efficiency" and the idea behind. They will highlight the existing potentials for energy efficiency in different sectors and their contribution to reduce CO2 emissions. Also, the new Website www.energy-efficiency-watch.org will be presented.
Background:
The Energy-Efficiency-Watch is a new initiative following a call from several European Parliamentarians. It accompanies and monitors the developments around the Energy Efficiency Directive and the national energy efficiency action plans in the coming years and offers a platform for the energy efficiency community within Europe. Following the Energy Efficiency Directive, EU Member States are expected to table their national plans by the end of June 2007.
