Wind Industry Profile of
Global Power Industry Contracts in Q2 2019: Wind Technology a Flat Growth
Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of contracts for the quarter, accounting for 173 contracts and a 73.3% share, followed by Offshore with 57 contracts and a 24.2% share. Onshore Repowered stood in third place with six contracts and a 2.5% share.
Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the second position in terms of number of contracts during Q2 2019 with a 34.5% share.
The proportion of contracts by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 79 contracts and a 33.5% share
- Project Implementation: 68 contracts and a 28.8% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 49 contracts and a 20.8% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 17 contracts and a 7.2% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 12 contracts and a 5.1% share
- Electricity Supply: 11 contracts and a 4.7% share.

Comparing contracts activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 118 contracts and a share of 50% during Q2 2019, followed by North America with 52 contracts and a 22% share and Asia-Pacific with 47 contracts and a 19.9% share.
In fourth place was South and Central America with 15 contracts and a 6.4% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with four contracts and a 1.7% share.

The top issuers of contracts in Wind technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (United States): 1,100MW from one contract
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,080MW from five contracts
- Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Turkey (Turkey): 1,000MW capacity from two contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,410MW from five contracts
- Orsted US Offshore Wind (United States) and Dongfang Electric Wind Power Co., (China): 1,100MW from one contract
- Orsted (Denmark): 900MW capacity from one contract.
