India - Sustainable Energy Technologies Ltd. to license wind turbine for Indian market
Sustainable Energy Technologies Ltd. announced today that it has agreed in principle with Belliss India Limited (“Belliss”) to license the Company’s Darrieus wind turbine technology for use in India. Based in New Delhi, Belliss is actively engaged in the field of system engineering manufacture and supply of turbines for the Indian power industry ranging from 20 kW to 10,000 kW. The total power generation capacity of Belliss turbines commissioned to-date throughout India is more than 2,000 MW.
A memorandum of understanding, which is subject to the negotiation of final agreements over the next few weeks, contemplates that Belliss will prototype, at its cost, a 250 kW wind turbine design the “Chinook 250”) developed by the Company and certified for use in Europe by Germanischer Lloyd. Should Belliss determine to commercialize the wind turbine for India, Sustainable Energy will license its technology and know-how to a joint venture between the Company and Belliss free-of-charge, but will have the right to acquire up to a 25% interest in the joint venture. Conversely, should Sustainable Energy determine to commercialize the wind turbine for other markets, Belliss will have the right to acquire up to a 25% interest in a joint venture to be formed for that purpose.
“With an estimated cost of energy of less than $0.07 per watt at moderate wind speeds, and a very rugged design, the Chinook turbine is ideal for distributed power generation in remote markets and the developing world,” said Michael Carten President & CEO of Sustainable Energy. “Bellis has been partner to commercialize the Chinook design,” Carten added. The Company is also in discussions with Belliss for a joint venture to manufacture and distribute its power inverters in India and adjacent markets for solar, small wind and fuel cell applications.
About Sustainable Energy
Based in Calgary Alberta,Sustainable Energy www.sustainableenergy.com develops manufactures and markets products for the renewable energy industry. The Company’s main product line is the SUNERGYTM power inverter which converts the direct current from the leading alternative energy generation and storage technologies – solar photovoltaics and small wind turbines fuel cells and flow batteries to the very high quality alternating current needed for the utility power grid.
About the Chinook 250
Recognized around the world as the “Canadian” wind turbine, the Darrieus vertical axis design is ideal for smaller projects where it is not practical or economic to install the larger horizontal axis turbines. The Chinook 250 was developed by Sustainable Energy in 2001 to optimize the Darrieus turbine design for remote markets especially as a diesel fuel saver. The turbine’s design philosophy is to provide a simple, low-cost product that is sized for the remote diesel market and that can be easily transported, installed, operated, and maintained with substantial participation from the local infrastructure and economy.
