Following the commissioning of the Wikinger offshore wind farm at the end of 2017, Baltic Eagle is the second major offshore project of Spanish energy company Iberdrola in Germany. Baltic Eagle will have a total capacity of 476 MW spread over 40 square kilometres.

MHI Vestas will supply up to 52 V174-9.5 MW turbines. This is the first time that these turbines will be used. "We are very proud to bring our V174-9.5 MW turbine into service for the first time with the Baltic Eagle project," says Philippe Kavafyan, CEO of MHI Vestas. "This is an excellent opportunity for MHI Vestas to deepen our expertise in German waters and especially in the Baltic Sea. We look forward to confirming the contract with Iberdrola and bringing it to fruition".

"The Baltic Eagle project demonstrates Iberdrola's determination to use technological innovation to build large-scale renewable power plants as a contribution to climate change while promoting economic and social development in the regions where we operate," says Xabier Viteri, head of the renewable energy business of the Iberdrola Group.

Together with Wikinger and Wikinger Süd, it will create the largest offshore wind complex in the Baltic Sea, with a total installed capacity of 836 MW and an investment volume of 2.5 billion euros.
