Working at Home: Van Oord Takes Over Cable Installation of Dutch Offshore Wind Farms Borssele I & II

The Rotterdam-based company will thus carry out the cabling for the entire Borssele wind project.

At the beginning of the year, it was decided that Dutch company Van Oord would take over the orders for the cable installation of the Borssele III & IV wind farms and the Borssele V innovation project. Now Danish offshore wind farm developer Ørsted has once again decided in favour of Van Oord: Subprojects I and II will also be carried out by Van Oord.

Van Oord is thus responsible for the transport, installation and laying of the 94 inter-array cables with a total length of 167 km. The special vessel Nexus will be used. Its brand new trencher Dig-It will bury the cables to the required depth of 2 m in the bottom of the North Sea.

The sub-project Borssele I & II has a capacity of 752 MW and will be located 23 km off the coast of Zeeland in the Netherlands. After completion in 2020, the wind farm is expected to provide enough renewable energy to meet the needs of approximately one million households per year.

Cable-laying vessel Nexus will be working at home in the Netherlands
