Wind Industry Profile of

GLOBAL WINDPOWER

2006 is the world's premier wind energy event, at a time of unprecedented worldwide growth in the wind industry.

The conference & exhibition in Adelaide, Australia (18-21 September) is co-organised by the Australian Wind Energy Association (Auswind) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), providing a unique opportunity to meet, share information, exhibit products and continue the expansion of one of the world's leading energy sources.

Taking place in the heart of the rapidly growing Asia-Pacific region, with an emphasis on the Chinese and Indian wind energy markets, the third Global Windpower event follows the success of Paris(2002) and Chicago (2004) in attracting senior decision makers and high level industry representatives from around the world.

"We are delighted to be holding this event in Adelaide this year. With the latest government announcements in Australia, the timing could not have been better" says Professor Arthouros Zervos, Chairman of GWEC.

Recent local developments have seen the South Australian Government announce a target of 20% of all electricity from renewables by 2014, particularly wind and the Victorian Government pledge to source 10% from renewables, including an additional 1,000MW of wind, by 2016.

The GLOBAL WINDPOWER 2006 conference will provide a platform to share strategic and business leadership know-how, quality information, expertise, analysis and data about wind energy; along with an internal exhibition on the latest industry developments worldwide.

South Australian Premier, Mike Rann, said: "With such an excellent range of high-quality speakers - experts in the fields of business and policy, technological developments, and the community and environmental aspects of wind power, this event promises to foster the worldwide development of the wind industry."

The programme for this year’s event will cover all aspects of the wind energy industry and its continued global development. Featured speakers include:
• Vilas Muttemwar, Minister for Non-Conventional Energy Sources, India,
• Mohammed Boutaleb, Minister for Energy and Mines, Morocco,
• Ana Estanqueiro, Chair, IEA – Wind Implementing Agreement,
• Senator Guy Barnett, representing the Prime Minister of Australia, John Howard,
• Mike Rann, Premier, South Australia,
GWEC – Uniting the global wind industry and its representative associations
• Theo Theophanous, Minister for Energy, Victoria, and;
• Patrick Conlon, Energy Minister, South Australia.
During the event GWEC will launch its new Global Wind Outlook report, with scenarios for the development of wind energy across the globe up to 2050.
