Germany: ‚GroKo Agreement‘ Fixed – Involving A Little Bit Of Climate Protection
German Spiegel Online reports that a timetable for phasing out coal is to be presented by the end of the year. The new government also seeks to take measures, as stated in the paper, "... in order to reduce the gap to achieve the 40% reduction target by 2020 as far as possible", suggesting indirectly that the old targets will no longer be attainable by 2020.
The energy transition is also to be pushed, at least a little bit more, with a "special call for tenders, which will contribute between eight and ten million tonnes of CO2 to the 2020 climate protection target". "Four gigawatts each of onshore wind energy and photovoltaics as well as an offshore wind energy contribution are to be added, half of which will be effective in 2019 and half in 2020, provided that the respective grids are able to absorb the produced electricity.“
It remains to be seen what will ultimately be retained in the coalition agreement.
