UK - Airtricity to build European wind energy grid

Irish renewable energy producer Airtricity said it is to construct a pan-European subsea energy grid that will link wind farms from the Mediterranean to the Bay of Biscay, North Sea and Baltic Sea. Technology for the facility, called Supergrid, will be supplied by ABB Ltd. As part of the plan, Airtricity said it is to build a 22 bln eur 10-gigawatt offshore wind farm in the North Sea. The proposed wind farm could power 8 million homes, it said.
