Wind Industry Profile of
Atlantis Energy and Ideol want to push floating industry in the UK
The cooperation is to initiate the development of a floating offshore wind project of up to 1.5 GW. In a first, non-commercial phase, 100 MW will be put into operation by 2021. The exact location of the floating wind farm has not yet been disclosed.
Atlantis has been active in the field of tidal energy, but has recently set up a division to deal with floating offshore turbines, which was received with great interest in Great Britain.
Tim Cornelius, CEO of Atlantis, emphasized the importance of these two projects: ""o now be seeking to develop a large floating offshore wind project alongside the UK’s largest tidal stream project is truly exciting. We want to leverage Ideol’s expertise in designing, engineering, building and installing floating offshore wind substructures to bring UK consumers affordable, sustainable and secure power.”
Ideol is currently working on two other pilot projects with swimming facilities in France and Japan and has already installed a pilot wind farm in the French Mediterranean. Paul de la Guérivière, CEO of Ideol commented: "Our strategic goal is now focusing on the development of large commercial scale wind farm projects with several opportunities currently under review in and outside of Europe. We are very excited by our partnership with an ambitious organisation such as Atlantis which has demonstrated its unique ability to develop innovative projects and to catalyse financing from strategic investors, in particular in a key market for Ideol such as the UK.”
