Wind Industry Profile of

British Dudgeon offshore wind farm: First turbine in the water

A2SEA's installation vessel SEA CHALLENGER installed the first turbine in the 402MW offshore wind farm Dudgeon for Statoil, Masdar and Statkraft.

This is the first of a total of 67 6MW turbines in the water off the east coast of England. In the next few months, the ship will load in the turbines at the Green Port in Hull and transport them to the wind farm, 32 km off the coast of Cromer in north Norfolk.

Since September 1, 2016, the SEA CHALLENGER has already been used as a swimming accommodation for the completion and commissioning of the offshore substation. The ship can be jacked up to 20 m above sea level and accommodates 80 workers, including the A2SEA crew.

Jens Frederik Hansen, CEO of A2SEA, was very satisfied with the performance of the team both on land and offshore: ”We have wide experience in handling the Siemens 6MW turbines, but it cannot be done without good team work. It is a great pleasure to once again work together with Siemens, but also our renewed cooperation and partnership with Statoil, which started on their first offshore wind project Sheringham Shoal, and now continues on the Dudgeon project.”

The Dudgeon offshore wind farm is owned by Statoil (35%), Masdar (35%) and Statkraft (30%) and will supply more than 400,000 households with renewable energy after 2017.
