SIEMENS Wind Power chooses REBO terminal in Ostend

SIEMENS Wind Power has signed a contract with REBO NV to use the port facilities for one year. The Munich-based group plans to pre-assemble the 42 wind turbines for the fifth Belgian offshore wind farm Rentel at the site in Ostend (Belgium).

It's the first time, Siemens becomes active in the Belgian offshore business. The Rentel offshore wind farm is located 40 km from the Belgian coast and has a capacity of 309 MW. From 2019 onwards, it will supply clean electricity for 300,000 Belgians.

At the REBO terminal in the port of Ostend, the various parts of the turbines (rotor blades, nacelles and tower elements) will be pre-assembled and prepared for loading from the beginning of 2018 onwards. For a whole year, Siemens wants to use the port, which was chosen because of its favorable position and easy accessibility of the mole.

When the park is put into operation in 2019, Siemens will take over the operation and maintenance for at least 17 years, for which local staff will be selected and trained.
