Comment: Lord, drop the brain!

Yesterday, the world stared at the news as the unthinkable happened: Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. Apart from Russia, Hungary, Germany's AFD and the FPÖ in Austria, worldwide reactions are unique: Shocked politicians, crashing stock exchanges, scenarios of Armageddon.

So now it has really happened: A majority of the US population has chosen this comic figure as the most powerful man in the world. It doesn't often happen that as a journalist, one looks at an event in such a speechless way struggleing for words and wonders what will follow next.

What does this mean for the rest of the world now? If Trump will succeed in putting even half of his dubious announcements into action, it will become much darker on this planet. Quite a few compare the current mood already with the one in Germany in the early 1930s. A coincidence that it was the 9th of November, when the result was fixed - 78 years after the ‘Reichspogromnacht’?

Trump had already named the culprits of America's misery: His despicable insults and threats attacked Muslims, women, Blacks, Latinos, and almost every other minority in the country. Another reminiscent of times believed long gone. And a feast for the restored European right.

And what will happen to the wind industry with this mighty joke figure with the finger on the trigger (“nuclear weapons have to be used")? We will see. Surveys - if they can still be trusted after the predictions for the outcome of this US election campaign - show that even among Trump voters, a large portion is pro wind energy. But Trump is known not to be a big friend of it because "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive."* His attempts to prevent the building of an offshore wind farm in Scotland with a series of complaints is still branded into our memories. This opens up gloomy prospects for the just-emerging US offshore wind industry.

By the way, the Scots had the right answer on Trump: A petition to forbid him to enter the country. If only it was that easy...

*The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.
