NorSea Group takes on offshore wind
"European offshore wind markets continue to grow and the markets in Asia and North America are mushrooming. There is therefore a growing need for the palette of services the NorSea Group has built over the past 50 years, including seabed investigation, transport cable inspection, onshore and offshore logistics, installation, service and maintenance – as well as specially designed vessels and other offshore equipment. Given the market situation, staking on offshore wind is an obvious step for us to take,” said CEO of NorSea Group, John E. Stangeland, in the wake of the recent founding of the new company, NSG Wind A/S, in Denmark.
The new Danish offshore company will ensure that the group can develop and provide versatile services for offshore wind customers – among them, operators, wind turbine manufacturers and sub-suppliers. NSG Wind has the know-how required to supply the services the offshore wind market needs. The company can create a package of services because the group has the right suppliers within its ranks to supply all the services in question.
"Denmark – with its offshore metropolis, Esbjerg – leads offshore wind energy so we chose to locate NSG Wind here. NSG Wind is owned by Danbor, our Danish subsidiary, whose headquarters are in Esbjerg."
Orders already on the books
Earlier this year, NorSea Group persuaded former COO in Apro Wind, Morten Basse, to leave a position as Director in Offshoreenergy.dk to become CEO of NSG Wind. A familiar figure in the offshore industry, Morten Basse has a comprehensive network, excellent customer contacts at the international level and an outstanding capacity for forging links between Denmark and foreign offshore wind markets.
"Via its subsidiary company, ØER A/S, NSG Wind already has several large clients within installation, service and maintenance of offshore turbines in Denmark, Germany and the UK. In partnership with the Taiwanese authorities, we are working on a port development project and are in the process of establishing a joint venture company with a local partner. We have also signed agreements on the US and Canadian markets. We have not turned our backs on the Danish market: we have two major offshore wind farms in the pipeline, which are patently obvious projects for us," says Morten Basse.
His team is represented in Denmark, France and Norway. The team includes specialists in subsea, port service, transport & logistics, marine services, installation and pre-assembly as well as wind turbine O&M services.
"That we represent a large, financially solid group, which can provide all types of supply services from the time the turbine components leave the factory and including O&M services, is a strong competitive parameter. This is true not least because we can achieve synergies between the services we offer, minimise the risks and reduce costs for our clients," Morten Basse says.
