Denmark: Vattenfall takes final investment decision for Horns Reef 3
Vattenfall has taken the final investment decision to construct the 400 MW Horns Reef 3 project off the coast of Denmark. MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has signed a contract to supply V164-8.0 MW wind turbines to the project.
CEO Jens Tommerup said, “The Horns Reef 3 project will set a new milestone for affordable offshore wind power, and we look forward to working with Vattenfall on delivering that goal,” and continues: “We have a strong partnership together with Vattenfall, underlined by the 300 MW Thanet project, and the 160 MW Horns Reef 1 project among others, and we are proud to partner with Vattenfall again to deliver our record breaking V164-8.0 MW turbines to the Horns Reef 3 project.”
The 400 MW Horns Rev 3 project is located off the west coast of Denmark and will contribute to Denmarks’ and the EUs’ goals’ to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2020. Vattenfall owns 60% of the Horns Rev 1 project, and in 2015 MHI Vestas Offshore Wind installed 15 V112-3.3 MW turbines at Vattenfall’s 50 MW Kentish Flats Extension project in the UK.
