India: New 40 MW wind project for Gamesa

ReNew Power, leader in its home market, will install 20 of Gamesa's G97-2.0 MW class S turbines at a wind farm located in Karnataka / Fourth project for Gamesa and ReNew Power, for which it has already signed firm orders for the supply of 140 MW in different projects.

Gamesa, a global technology leader in wind energy, has secured a new order in India from ReNew Power, one of India's leading independent power producers (IPP), for the EPC construction of a 40-MW wind farm located in Ron, in the state of Karnataka.

The agreement signed with ReNew Power encompasses the installation of 20 G97-2.0 MW class S turbines. With a tower height of 104 metres, this new turbine variant is custom-designed for the low wind speed sites typical of India.

Since it is a turnkey contract, Gamesa will also provide the infrastructure needed to install and operate the facility and will service the wind farm on a long-term basis. The wind farm's commissioning is scheduled for September 2016.

It is worthy to note that Gamesa has already commissioned over 140 MW of wind projects for ReNew Power across Maharashtra and Karnataka and this order will be the fourth order from ReNew Power.

Gamesa in India

Gamesa has consolidated its position as the leading OEM in India for the third year running, further increasing the gap with respect to the number-two player, lifting its market share from 25% in 2014 to 34% in 2015, according to the report recently released by MAKE Consultancy. As for the market's potential, MAKE is forecasting 30 MW of new wind power capacity additions in this market by 2025, driven the country's growing energy requirement.

Gamesa has been present in India - as technology provider and wind farm developer - since 2009, where it has installed close to 2,600 MW. In 2015, India accounted for 29% of the company's total sales volume.
