Wind Industry Profile of
France: Senvion wins orders for 74 megawatts from RES for two wind projects
Senvion will equip the Sambrès wind farm with 26 Senvion MM82 turbines, in addition 11 Senvion MM92 turbines have been installed for the Bois de la Serre wind farm. These will together produce enough electricity to power more than 24,600 three-person households (including heating) in France every year. Senvion will provide full maintenance services to the wind farms for a period of 10 years with an option to be extended to up to 15 years. Upon completion, the wind farms will save 47,300 metric tons of CO 2 emissions every year.
The Bois de la Serre wind farm consists of eleven Senvion MM92 turbines, each with a rated power of 2 MW and a hub height of 88.5 meters. The installed turbines have been commissioned by end of December 2015. The Sambrès wind farm will consist of 26 MM82 turbines, each with a hub height of 85 meters. The construction has already started, and five turbines have already been installed. The commissioning of the entire wind farm is planned for mid-2016. Both projects are located in a mountain and forest area where the wind is particularly strong and turbulent. To preserve the forest and avoid cutting down trees, the Senvion turbines were mounted blade by blade and are delivered with specific hub heights to comply with the site conditions.
Olivier Perot, Managing Director of Senvion Europe South West, says: “We are proud that RES is continuing its business partnership with Senvion for these complex projects. This highlights the capabilities of Senvion to serve the whole French market with a tailored product and service portfolio.”
Matthieu Guérard, Managing Director of RES Southern Europe, adds: “We are very pleased to be building these two projects in the Black Mountain area in Languedoc using Senvion turbines that meet the specific requirements of these technically challenging sites. These new projects, with an installed capacity of 74 MW, add to the 45 MW of wind farms already built by RES in the Black Mountain area, where renewable energies are an important factor for the local economic development.”
