Ireland - Siemens reports 7% increase in sales

Turnover increases by 24% to €215m

Siemens, the giant German hi-tech group which employs 800 staff in Ireland, has reported worldwide sales increase of 7% to €75.44bn for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2005, while new orders rose 11% to a massive €83.79bn. Lorenz Zimmermann, managing director for Ireland, said the company’s business here had expanded significantly driven by major contracts in healthcare, telecommunications, transportation and energy sectors. Turnover in Ireland increased by 24% to €215m while new orders rose to €265m from €177m the previous year.

“Our local operations delivered good performance this fiscal and our entry into the wind farms and water technology areas offer exciting potential.” The excellent set of results were made on the back of major contracts to supply hospitals with hi-tech equipment. During 2005 Siemens Wind Energy delivered the largest wind farm ever built in Ireland at Meentycat, Donegal for Airtricity. Siemens is currently undertaking €40m on contract from Irish Rail for the refurbishment and upgrade of old DART trains. In August 2005, Siemens, together with NEC, won a contract to supply a third generation network for 3 Ireland. Siemens employs more than 800 in Ireland.
