Sweden: Nordisk Vindkraft and Stadtwerke München inaugurate one of Sweden’s biggest wind farms

Swedish wind power company Nordisk Vindkraft and Stadtwerke München of Munich, Germany, inaugurate 48 wind turbines at the Sidensjö Wind Farm

Sidensjö Wind Farm is one of Sweden’s largest wind farms with 48 turbines and a total installed effect of 144MW. Situated approximately 15 km west of Örnsköldsvik and 440 km north of Stockholm, this wind farm will produce renewable electricity and prevent emission of 380.000 tonnes of CO 2 to the atmosphere annually. Hence, it will contribute considerably to the supply of environmentally friendly electricity and to Sweden’s target for reduced climate impact.

Sidensjö Wind Farm is the biggest wind farm built by Nordisk Vindkraft to date in Sweden. During the construction works up to 200 people have at times been working on the site simultaneously. To ensure health and safety during construction more than 1 300 individuals were trained in safety procedures. After developing and constructing the wind farm, Nordisk Vindkraft will continue to manage the operation of the wind farm and handle local contacts.

Arne Lorenzen, CEO of Nordisk Vindkraft, said: “The Sidensjö wind farm is a significant milestone for our company. It will be a major contribution to reaching the climate targets in Sweden and in Europe and we are proud to hand over this impressive wind farm on time and on budget. We are now looking forward to continue the cooperation with our client Stadtwerke München during the operational phase of the wind farm together with the local stakeholders in and around the Sidensjö area.”

For the new owner of the wind farm, Stadtwerke München, Sidensjö is their first investment in Sweden. Christian Vogt, Head of Corporate Investment Management, said: "Thanks to the good and professional collaboration with Nordisk Vindkraft, our renewable energies expansion campaign has taken a further big step forward. This is because the 400 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity that are produced there every year are sufficient to cover the demand of 160,000 Munich households. And SWM's expansion of renewable energies continues: along with the three offshore wind parks DanTysk and Global Tech I in the North Sea, and Gwynt y Môr in the Irish Sea, the Sidensjö onshore wind park is our fourth major project that is being commissioned this year. And our next large-scale regenerative project is already being created with the start of construction works on the Sandbank offshore wind park." The inauguration is celebrated locally with an open day for the local general public on September 6th.
