Planning Inspectorate formally accepts application for Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm Electrical System

‘Interested parties’ can register with the Planning Inspectorate / This will enable them to take part in forthcoming stages of decision making process

The Planning Inspectorate formally accepted the application for a development consent order for Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm Electrical System (TKES). The decision to accept the application for examination confirms that the wind farm proposals have been correctly submitted. The application will now move towards the examination stage of the Planning Inspectorate’s decision making process.

The Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm project is a 50:50 partnership between RWE Innogy UK and Statkraft. Twenty miles off the coast of Lincolnshire, the offshore project will have a generating capacity of up to 900MW, enough to generate energy for up to 800,0001 average UK households each year.

Economic benefits have already begun to flow from the project with over £20million already invested in the UK during the development process. Construction and operation of the project will boost this significantly, creating around 1,900 UK jobs during construction.

The application for the Electrical System was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate this April following a formal consultation period on proposed plans with the public, local planning authorities, statutory bodies and other organisations, between October and November 2014.

The next phase will be the formal S56 consultation on the proposals (under Section 56 of the Planning Act 2008). This consultation will run between 12 June and 13 July 2015 and it is through this process that it will be possible to register with the Planning Inspectorate as an interested party.

James Cotter, Interim Project Director, said: “The acceptance of the application brings the delivery of this significant renewable energy project one step closer to construction and operation. Our application takes account of the extensive feedback returned as part of the five week, formal consultation process we held late last year. The responses received during that period were collated and considered as part of this submission." He added: “People will now have the opportunity to comment on the development consent application submitted to the Planning Inspectorate.”

All comments about the Triton Knoll Electrical System application should now be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate. Please always refer to application reference no. EN020019
