MHI Vestas Offshore Wind receives largest ever order – 400 MW in the UK

The Rampion Offshore Wind Farm in the UK will be the largest ever project for MHI Vestas Offshore Wind. The project will use 116 V112-3.45 MW wind turbines- upgraded machines optimised to increase power production for the customer.

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has received the largest order in the companies’ history for the 400 MW Rampion offshore wind power plant in the UK. The order comprises 116 V112-3.45 MW wind turbines and a full scope service contract.

Installation of the 116 wind turbines will commence in the first quarter of 2017, with commissioning planned to be completed in 2018. The project is expected to be one of the first of the UK Round 3 projects to be built.

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind CEO Jens Tommerup said, “We are extremely proud that E.ON and the UK Green Investment Bank plc (GIB) have placed the largest ever order for MHI Vestas Offshore Wind turbines for the Rampion project, one of the first of the UK Round 3 projects to be installed.” he said and continues: “We have worked closely together with E.ON to deliver the Humber Gateway (219 MW) and Kårehamn (48 MW) projects over the last two years and we are pleased that this proven technology of the V112-3.45 MW, for which we have improved power output, has been chosen to provide greater value for the Rampion site.”

Michael Lewis, COO of E.ON Climate & Renewables: “We’re extremely pleased that MHI Vestas has been awarded the contract for this exciting project. They have worked collaboratively with us to optimise performance and help drive down the levelised cost of energy for Rampion, through this site-specific 3.45MW upgrade and a flexible service and maintenance approach.”

The Rampion offshore wind power plant will be located 13km off the Sussex coast at its nearest point. The project will be one of the first of the UK Round 3 projects to be constructed. When completed in 2018 the 400 MW project will generate enough electricity to supply the energy needs of up to 290,000 UK homes, and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 600,000 tonnes a year.
