Major offshore order for AMBAU
Starting in June 2015, 54 monopiles and transition pieces for the “Nordsee One”-project will be produced in the AMBAU facilities in Bremen and Cuxhaven on behalf of Nordsee One GmbH. These 54 foundations consist of a total mass of approximately 50.000 to of steel. The monopiles and transition pieces will be screwed together and will be equipped with an innovative sealing system that has been jointly invented and successfully tested with engineers of RWE Innogy and AMBAU in AMBAU’s facility in Bremen.
In October 2014, AMBAU has already started with the “Detailed Design” of the foundations and is about to be certified. “Delivering an optimized and certifiable design of the foundations additionally to the production itself is a challenging and technically demanding task for AMBAU”, describes Rainer Wirth, Head of Engineering of AMBAU the engineering process.
The foundations will be installed approximately 40 kilometers north of Juist Island in German territorial waters. Once operational, “Nordsee One” with its 54 wind mills is expected to generate over 1.200 gigawatt hours of electricity per year, enough to meet the needs of approximately 400.000 German households.
Nordsee One GmbH is a joint undertaking of Northland Power Inc. / Canada and RWE Innogy GmbH / Germany. RWE Innogy plans, builds and operates facilities generating power from renewable energies to strongly enhance the development of renewable energies.
