AWEA Statement on Clean Power Plan at FERC technical conference

“Wind energy and other renewables will play a key role in cost-effective compliance with the Clean Power Plan and help build a more balanced, reliable U.S. electricity portfolio"

The American Wind Energy Association’s (AWEA) Senior Vice President, Government & Public Affairs, Rob Gramlich participated as a panelist at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)  technical conference on Clean Power Plan reliability and infrastructure implications. Gramlich submitted a written statement for the record and responded to questions from Commissioners.

In reference to today’s FERC conference on the Clean Power Plan, Gramlich said:
“Wind energy and other renewables will play a key role in cost-effective compliance with the Clean Power Plan and help build a more balanced, reliable U.S. electricity portfolio. Existing markets and other institutions are well-equipped to reliably handle the proposed changes, and while infrastructure, planning and grid operations improvements will be needed for the most cost-effective compliance with the Clean Power Plan, they are needed with or without the rule. Wind energy already greatly reduces emissions, and the EPA correctly envisions a greatly expanded role for wind energy under the Clean Power Plan.”

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its Clean Power Plan, the first-ever draft rules aimed at cost-effectively and reliably reducing carbon pollution at existing power plants last year.
