Inside US Wind - Wind energy helps build a more reliable and balanced electricity portfolio

MEDIA ADVISORY for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015

What: The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) will release a new report that answers common questions about how wind energy is reliably integrated onto the power system.

Who: Tom Kiernan, CEO, AWEA, and Michael Goggin, Director of Research, AWEA

When: Thursday, Feb. 12 from 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. ET

Where: Webinar: http://bit.ly/1ukKXmL Accredited journalists are encouraged to register for our online release webinar. Call-in details will be displayed once you register.

Details: AWEA wind power reliability report – new findings from AWEA demonstrate wind power’s important contributions to a reliable and balanced electricity portfolio. The report will also highlight recent records for wind energy production and explain the technological advances that have made them possible.

During the webinar AWEA CEO Tom Kiernan and AWEA Director of Research Michael Goggin will discuss the report’s findings related to wind power’s place in a balanced, reliable energy mix. The report’s author, Michael Goggin, will answer 15 frequently asked questions on topics including the role of energy storage, how wind can help reliably meet EPA’s Clean Power Plan and the place of wind energy within the U.S. energy mixture.

The webinar will preview testimony AWEA will provide at an upcoming Federal Energy Regulatory Commission hearing on electric reliability and EPA’s Clean Power Plan. The webinar will also address recent studies that have evaluated the reliability impact of EPA’s Clean Power Plan.

Large amounts of wind energy are being reliably integrated onto the power system today; both studies and experience in many regions indicate we can go much higher. Wind energy’s contribution is expected to grow with the implementation of EPA’s Clean Power Plan. Wind turbine technology advances and improvements in wind energy forecasting now enable wind energy to provide all of the grid reliability services provided by conventional power plants.
