Iran - Ten wind power plants to be built in Khorasan soon

Managing director of Khorasan Regional Electricity Company announced that 10 wind power plants will be built in the region before the end of the year. Commenting on the past and present situation of the company and the future programs, Eslami noted that before the Islamic Revolution in Iran, the overall length of the country’s power grid distribution cables was only about 67,000 kilometers, while it is now some 540,000 kilometers.

Stressing importance of the long-term planning in power (electricity) industry the official said, “The main challenge for us is to sustain the dynamic increase in the energy consumption of the country”, adding that with the measures taken in the sector, the officials in charge have succeeded to increase the per capita consumption of energy in our country from 482 kW per hour to 220,000 kW per hour in 2004 since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979. He further commented on the investment made in the transfer and distribution sectors of the industry and noted, “We have called for 600 billion rials investment in the field, however, only 470 billion rials of the figure has been agreed upon so far.
